Dr Marianne van der Vaart
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Biography
Marianne joined the Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences as a postdoctoral research associate in October 2024. She works on the validation of EEG biomarkers in the context of clinical trials and neurodevelopmental conditions. She hopes that her work will contribute to the availability of tailored support options for people who wish to seek them.
Marianne’s core expertise is in the analysis of EEG and fMRI data in children and babies. She is particularly interested in the relationship between neuroimaging and other modalities, such as behaviour. With a background in medicine, she is keen to progress the translation of neuroscientific findings to clinical practice. To this end, she aims to create reproducible, standardised and easy-to-use analysis software to facilitate the uptake of neuroscientific methods in clinical research.
Before joining King’s College London, Marianne completed her PhD (2022) and two years of postdoctoral research in the Paediatric Neuroimaging Group at the University of Oxford, focusing on the improvement of pain assessment and management in term and preterm babies. She also holds a BSc and MSc in Medicine and an MSc in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands.
