Biography

Mark graduated with a degree in Pharmacology from UC Cardiff in 1985 and was awarded a PhD from the University of Wales in 1989. He joined Fisons, Loughborough in 1988 as a cardiovascular pharmacologist and worked for Astra, then AstraZeneca as an inflammation pharmacologist & preclinical project leader.  Mark moved to Celltech in 2001 as Head of Pharmacology (Cambridge), establishing a Multiple Sclerosis research group and becoming portfolio head for Inflammation NCE projects & Deputy Site Director.  He left in 2008, founded his Preclinical Consultancy business, Akranim Ltd and was awarded a 4-year BBSRC Industrial Impact Fellowship at King’s College London in 2009, where now works part-time as a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology. He is an elected Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
