Matteo Battilocchi is a Research Assistant in the Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine. He earned his BSc in Biotechnology at the University of Parma (Italy) where he studied the mitochondrial polymerase using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system. After working for a short period as a laboratory technician he joined KCL in 2014 with a position in the Biological Services Unit where he worked for three years with different species, focusing especially on mouse work. The in vivo skills gained during this role allowed him to join Professor Fiona Watt’s lab in 2017 where he is responsible for the organisation and maintenance of mouse colonies belonging to the Centre and assisting the team with day to day management of the lab. He supports different projects that are concerned with self-renewal and lineage selection by mouse epidermal stem cells and the role of stem cells in epidermal and oral tumour formation.
