Biography
Micaela joined King’s College London in 2005. She completed her BA in Modern Foreign Languages with Education at King’s College London (2004) and went on to gain an MA in Management of Language Learning from the University of Greenwich (2006).
Micaela Moreyra has taught and designed curricula for a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including the Doctoral Training Programme (DTP). She has extensive experience teaching Spanish at all levels, with particular expertise in specialized courses such as Conversational Spanish, Spanish for Business, and Spanish for Medics. She has also prepared students for the Advanced Certificate of Medical Spanish, issued by the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.
Micaela developed pedagogically informed Spanish language exercises for delivery via KEATS (King’s College London’s Moodle-based platform), aimed at supporting independent learning and reinforcing classroom instruction.
She contributed to the development of the online course Foundations of Spanish for Global Communication in collaboration with King’s Online, hosted on FutureLearn.
Beyond her teaching role, Micaela has actively facilitated workshops for both staff and students at the Language Centre. Her professional interests include integrating information technology into language learning and exploring the potential of artificial intelligence in education.
Research, Scholarly projects and Academic Awards
As part of a long-term project aimed at helping students develop their speaking skills, Micaela, in collaboration with colleagues at King’s Language Centre, has been leading an innovative initiative to enhance Spanish speaking proficiency through AI-driven conversations. The project integrates advanced voice synthesis technology to create conversational agents capable of engaging students in realistic, context-based dialogues.
One of the key aims of the initiative is to promote autonomous learning by allowing students to design and interact with their own AI conversations. Micaela guided students through the pilot phase, monitored their engagement, and refined the approach based on their feedback. She also developed targeted activities aligned with course objectives, helping students practice grammar, expand vocabulary, and explore relevant topics such as environmental issues.
Beyond the classroom, Micaela’s work encourages students to take ownership of their learning and use technology creatively to reinforce language skills. Her efforts exemplify a forward-thinking approach to language education, effectively blending pedagogy and technology to support student success.
