Head of Portfolio Marketing

Biography

Michael Hughes leads on student recruitment marketing strategy for the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences and the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care. In addition to leading on the medium- and longer-term marketing planning process, this role carries responsibility for maintaining an expert level understanding of the external environment within UK and international higher education, proactively assessing the programme portfolio's competitive position and conveying opportunities and threats with actionable recommendations to senior faculty stakeholders.

Michael has worked in various roles across Brand & Marketing since joining King’s in 2010 from St. Mary’s University, where he was International Officer. His experience includes international student recruitment from a wide range of markets, partnerships work as well as portfolio marketing across multiple faculties and programme types.

Michael holds an MBA in Higher Education Management from UCL and is a Chartered Marketer with the CIM.

A language enthusiast outside of work, Michael also holds an undergraduate degree in Japanese from Cambridge University, in which he translates professionally, in addition to tutoring French on a voluntary basis with The Access Project.
