Biography

Dr Michael Owiso is a Visiting practitioner as part of the Practice of Leadership programme with the African Leadership Centre.

He is Dean of the School of Development and Strategic Studies at Maseno University-Kenya. He has taught subjects in the fields of political science, international relations and development studies at various universities in Kenya and abroad.

Michael also has over 17 years of conceptual and practical experience in dealing with conflict, peace, security and development issues while he worked in the humanitarian sector in the Eastern and Horn of Africa. He is a champion of participatory methods to development and education. He is also a consultant in the above fields.

He holds a BA in Political Science from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, MA in International Relations from the United States International University-Africa and a PhD in Political Science from Aalborg University in Denmark.

Michael has authored in journals and books is also a reviewer in journals. His research areas and interests include inter- and multidisciplinary research on migration, refugees and displaced persons in Africa.

He also looks at the changing landscape of conflict resolution, peacebuilding and development in relation to state-society relations in Africa, as well as the theory and practice of leadership and security in the world system with a focus on transformative leadership in Africa.
