Adjunct Clinical Reader in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery

Biography

Michail is Adjunct Clinical Reader in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at King's College London.

He has also been substantive NHS Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon at the Evelina London Children's Hospital since 2015.

He is Head of Adolescent Hip Preservation Surgery dealing with all aspects of Paediatric Complex Hip Pathologies including Hip Dysplasia, Perthes Disease and Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis. He has also developed a subspecialist interest in the modern management of Lower Limb Musculoskeletal Problems in Children with Neurodisability including Cerebral Palsy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathies. Furthermore, he deals with complex Paediatric Feet Deformities.

He is Chair of the South East England Cerebral Palsy Integrated Pathway(SECPIP) and Co-Chair of the UK’s National Working Group for Hip Displacement in children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA CARE UK).

He is Executive Member of the European Neuromuscular Study Group (on behalf of the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society(EPOS) and Chair of expert committees to produce national guidelines for orthopaedic problems in children in the UK – e.g. management of “The Paediatric Flatfoot” and “Hip Displacement in Spinal Muscular Atrophy (on behalf of the British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgeons (BSCOS) and the British Society for Surgery in Cerebral Palsy (BSSCP).

His main research interests are Orthopaedic Surgical Advances in children with Cerebral Palsy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy as well as Application of Clinical Innovation in Paediatric Orthopaedics including Virtual and Augmented Reality and 3D Printing.

In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious National Clinical Impact Award (N3-NCIA) to recognise his exceptional contributions to the UK’s National Health System and his lifelong commitment to advanced children’s healthcare provision.
