Biography

Mishal Najam is a Research Assistant in the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London. She is based at the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute.

Her research focuses on sex-specific psychiatry, exploring how the symptoms of depression differ between males and females. Specifically, she investigates the lived experiences of depression and perspectives about the UK mental healthcare system. Her work aims to develop more effective interventions that take into consideration sex differences. This will contribute to the development of a precision psychiatry, that is like ""personalized medicine"" for mental health.

Alongside her research role, Mishal is building experience in mental health research and clinical psychology, with a strong interest in work that connects academic research with real-world mental health practice. She is particularly interested in psychological wellbeing and in strengthening evidence-based understanding of mental health difficulties. Through her work, she aims to contribute to research that supports meaningful progress in mental health knowledge and practice.

Mishal joined King’s College London in 2025. She holds an MSc in Clinical Psychology and reflects a strong interest in applying research to support a better understanding of psychological difficulties in real-world contexts.
