Biography

Dr El-Mezgueldi received a BSc degree in Animal Biology from the University of Mohamed V, Rabat, Morocco. He moved to France where he obtained an MSc and a Ph.D, in Biochemistry from the University of Montpellier I (Montpellier) with distinction. He spent 6 years as a postdoctoral research associate in Imperial College London in the UK and one year in the University of Pennsylvania in the USA. Dr El-Mezgueldi received a prestigious Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust in open competition. He spent 13 years as a tenured Lecturer in Protein Science in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Leicester (United Kingdom).

He is currently a lecturer in Aston University in Birmingham and a visiting lecturer in Kings College London. Dr El-Mezgueldi is an internationally recognised expert in muscle biochemistry. He uses biophysical, structural and biochemical methods to understand mechanistic aspects of muscle contraction and its pathophysiology. He has published over 35 articles. He acts as a reviewer for a number of funding organisations and international scientific journals. He is a member of the American Biophysical Society, the British Biochemical Society and the European Muscle Club. He has recently been awarded a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in the United Kingdom.
