Narmeen Qumsieh

PhD Student

Biography

Narmeen is a PhD researcher in Global Health and Social Medicine. Her research examines health systems in conflict-affected settings, with a particular focus on Palestine. Her doctoral research explores the resilience and recovery of Gaza’s health system through a systems-thinking approach, in the context of the current war and protracted conflict.

Narmeen brings an interdisciplinary perspective shaped by experience in clinical nursing, health education, and social science research. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Bethlehem University in Palestine and a Master’s degree in Nursing Education from Lewis University in the United States. Before beginning her PhD, she spent five years in higher education in Palestine, teaching nursing and health-related subjects and contributing to research. This background informs her interest in how health systems respond to crises, and how the experiences and capacities of health workers and communities can shape response and recovery.

Her broader research interests include health system resilience and strengthening; health workforce education, capacity-building, and support; and locally led approaches to recovery. She is also interested in community participation, empowerment, and the ways power and governance shape health systems in protracted crises and humanitarian settings.
