Clinical Director of Transplant Services

MBBS (St Georges Hospital Medical School, London) PhD (Cambridge) FRCP (Royal College of Physicians, London)

Dr Torpey qualified from St George’s Hospital Medical School in 1994. He completed speciality training in nephrology and transplantation in Cambridge, followed by 3 years of laboratory research at Yale University. In 2004 he was appointed as a consultant nephrologist at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, and moved back to Cambridge in 2010. His speciality interest is in transplantation, particularly ABO blood group incompatible and positive cross match kidney transplants. He is the lead investigator in several clinical studies, editor of the Oxford Handbook of Renal Transplantation, and a council member of the British Transplant Society.

 

Dr Torpey is Clinical Director of the transplant directorate, which includes nephrology, hepatology, transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery.
