Omar is a Wellcome Trust Africa Health Research Training Programme (CREATE) funded doctoral fellow at KCL and Zambart supervised by Dr Antonio de Marvao, Dr Kate Bramham, and Dr Alexandra Ridout. He is a member of the Capacity Research Innovation Building Maternity Systems (CRIBS) International group. His PhD will deliver the GUAVA study (Genomic, Ultrasound, and Angiogenic assessment of Vulnerability to pre-eclampsia in Africa) within the FCDO funded CRADLE-SMART programme (Community empoweRment Approaches to Develop Local, Early Sustainable MAteRnity care with co-developed Technology).

Omar is a previous GKT student president who has returned to us from Imperial College London, where he was an Academic Clinical Fellow and registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. He holds MSc Public Health (Health Economics) (LSHTM) and MSc Genomic Medicine (Imperial). Through his PhD he is learning to use data science, genomics, and social participation approaches to improve health and equity for women and children in Zambia, South Africa, and Sierra Leone. He represents clinical-academic colleagues nationally as an executive member of BMA Medical Academic Staff Committee and a member of RCOG Global Health Trainees Committee.
