Oscar Andres Pena Cabello
Research Fellow
Biography
Oscar Peña joined the group of Dr Robert Knight as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in 2020. His research aims to define the role of Polycomb Repressor Complex proteins in muscle regeneration. Using a combination of genetic manipulation and in vivo imaging in zebrafish he is studying the different functions of Polycomb Repressor Complex proteins in the cell types that participate in muscle regeneration.
During his PhD in University College London (UCL), Oscar used zebrafish to model myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with Del(5q) and identified a role for TLR7 signalling modulation in the development of erythroid cells. Parallelly, he studied the subfunctionalization of the two zebrafish GATA2 paralogs gata2a and gata2b, and their differing roles during primitive and definitive granulopoiesis.
