Patrick Gill-Tiney is an international relations scholar specialising in international security and international order. His research explores how states compete for influence and shape international order through military, economic, and institutional means. His work examines topics including hierarchy, rising powers, second-rank states, international institutions, and the growing role of economic relationships in strategic competition. Combining quantitative analysis with comparative historical research, he investigates the causes of conflict and cooperation in the international system. His research has been published in the Journal of Conflict Resolution and is forthcoming in Security Studies. He also contributes to wider policy debates through writing for War on the Rocks and academic blogs, and through written evidence to parliamentary select committees.
