Biography

Paul has a BA in Philosophy from Manchester Metropolitan University and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (MA TESOL) from the University of Birmingham. For his MA dissertation he carried out a corpus study of Chinese foundation-level students' use of discourse markers in their English academic writing. He also holds both the Cambridge CELTA and Cambridge DELTA.

Paul has previously taught English in Hong Kong and also taught English for Academic Purposes for five years at Shanghai University. Since returning to the UK in 2019, he has primarily taught foundation-level students at University of the Arts London (UAL) as well as teaching pre-sessional English at University College London.

Paul's current areas of interest are focussed on developing learner agency and increasing student engagement. In his spare time he enjoys running long distances and spending quality time with his cat Roger.
