Research Assistant

Biography

Pearl joined King's College London as a research assistant in July 2025, working on the HOME & bDEP trials, investigating the effectiveness of home-based tDCS for unipolar and bipolar depression respectively. Outside of this project, she is interested in stuttering research, and how mental health is affected in individuals with speech disorders. She has recently worked as a research assistant in the Educational and Developmental Psychology lab at Middlesex University, in the Wellbeing and Language Lab at UCL, and the TOPIC Research Group at the University of Oxford.

Pearl completed her undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology at New College Oxford, and later completed her Master's in Language Sciences at University of London, exploring the positive experiences of people who stutter using Reddit as part of her Master's dissertation.

Expertise & Public Engagement 

Pearl has collaborated with STAMMA, writing articles about her own experiences with stuttering, as well as presenting her research and new ideas at STAMMA research arenas to gain feedback from other people who stutter. She is also involved with various academic outreach programmes, such as Seren, the Welsh Government's flagship outreach initiative, and Step-Up, with New College Oxford.
