Biography

Penelope (Penny) Ward is a Visiting Professor in the Centre for Pharmaceutical Medicines Research, Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences. Professor Ward qualified in medicine from University College Hospital Medical School, jjoining the pharmaceutical industry following initial specialization in clinical obstetrics and gynaecology.

She has enjoyed an active pharmaceutical medicine career with experience in medicines development, clinical research and pharmacovigilance acquired in senior roles at Pharmacia and Upjohn (now part of Pfizer), Roche, GSK and UCB. She has also served as Chief Medical Officer of Novimmune, Glenmark, Karus Therapeutics, Blue Earth Diagnostics and Virion Biotherapeutics. Her work has resulted in the approval of multiple novel therapeutics and diagnostic test methods widely used in clinical practice across the world. Professor Ward is Chair of the Education and Standards Committee of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, Royal Colleges of Physicians UK and a Global Fellow in Medicines Development of the International Federation of Associations of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Pharmaceutical Medicine.

She is now working as an independent pharmaceutical physician advising clients on the development of novel diagnostics and treatments for infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders and cancer.
