Professor Alberto Smith

Awarded BSc in Applied Biology in 1978 and appointed as an SERC Junior Fellow researching 'Bioconversion routes of cellulosic biomass to liquid fuels' in the Energy Group at the University of Reading in the same year. Moved to St George’s Hospital Medical School in 1980 and awarded PhD for work on 'Regulation of fluid balance in the preterm and sick newborn infant' in 1984. Following post-doctoral positions in the Dept of Child Health at St George’s and a Research Fellowship/Honorary Lectureship in the Dept of Child Life & Health, in Edinburgh University, he was made a Senior Lecturer in the Academic Dept of Surgery, UMDS in 1998; became came a Reader in Vascular Sciences in 2006, Professor of Vascular Sciences in 2008. Invited to Head the Academic Dept of Vascular Surgery, KCL, in 2009.Lead Postgraduate Coordinator in the School of Cardiovascular Medicine and Sciences from 2006-2019 and currently the Chair of the Higher Degrees Subject Advisory Board for Surgery in KCL.
