Rebecca (Bex) Coates

Head of Communications for the Ariel Mission Consortium (AMC), Ariel Data Challenge (ADC), and London Centre for Space Exochemistry Data (LCSED).

Biography

Rebecca (Bex) Coates is the Head of Communications for the Ariel Mission Consortium (AMC), Ariel Data Challenge (ADC), and London Centre for Space Exochemistry Data (LCSED), in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences at King's College London. 

She has accumulated over 12 years’ experience as a communications specialist working in science, including science television production experience, and teaching science media production at undergraduate level as a Teaching Fellow (adjunct) at University College London.

Rebecca holds a BSc (Hons) in Digital Media Production, MSc in Science and Technology Studies, and is currently completing a PhD thesis in the History of Science. She has published research in both History of Science and Science Outreach, including a UCL Press book chapter on engaging students and researchers through the production of science videos.

Responsibilities

  • Developing the AMC, ADC, and LCSED communications and engagement strategy.
  • Liaising with the AMC Policy Officer to engage with external stakeholders in media, industry, and policy.
  • Co-ordinating internal and external AMC communications, including the production and delivery of materials such as internal strategy documents and reports, external press releases, website announcements, social media content, graphic design for web or print, photography, and video production.
  • External press and broadcasting liaison.
