Ricardo Rodrigues is a Reader in Human Resource Management at King's Business School, King's College London. His research examines the changing relationship between individuals and organisations, approached through three connected areas: careers, employability, and HR processes.

At the centre of this work is how people build and navigate careers in contexts shaped by organisational structures, labour-market uncertainty, technological change, and shifting expectations about work. Ricardo challenges overly simple accounts of careers as either organisationally managed or fully self-directed, examining instead how they are shaped by the interaction between individual agency, organisational systems, and wider labour-market conditions.

From this foundation his work extends in two directions. The first looks outward to employability and graduate labour-market transitions — how individuals develop the resources and confidence to move into and through the labour market. Here he is particularly interested in graduate job search, early career outcomes, and how artificial intelligence is reshaping the ways graduates prepare for and access work.

The second turns to HR processes and employee experiences: how employees interpret and respond to HR practices, and how organisations can support and retain people with differing career preferences, mobility expectations, and relationships with work.

Ricardo is Programme Director of the MSc in Human Resource Management and Organisational Analysis, where he works to strengthen the links between academic research, professional practice, and student employability through curriculum development, practitioner engagement, mentoring, and career coaching.

He also contributes to the wider academic community through editorial and professional service, as Associate Editor of Applied Psychology and previously as Representative-at-Large for the Careers Division of the Academy of Management.
