
Biography
Dr Ritika Kapoor is a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Adjunct Reader in the Department of Women & Children’s Health at King’s College London.
After graduating in Medicine from Mumbai University in 1997, Dr Kapoor was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) in 2001 and completed her postgraduate training in Paediatrics and Endocrinology in London, UK in 2010. She earned a PhD from University College London in 2010 for her work on the genetics of Congenital Hyperinsulinism, and in 2020 was elected as a Fellow of the RCPCH (FRCPCH) in recognition of her contributions to the field.
Appointed as a Consultant at King’s College Hospital in 2010, Dr Kapoor leads a regional paediatric endocrine service serving a population of approximately 3.5 million across Southeast England. She was appointed Service Lead in 2020 and plays a key role in regional care delivery through specialist outreach clinics. Her clinical work focuses on congenital hyperinsulinism, growth hormone disorders, pituitary dysfunction, and complex adolescent endocrinology. She has set up and leads several specialist services including the Congenital Hyperinsulinism Service, the Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Clinic, and a joint Endocrine–Gynaecology Clinic for adolescent reproductive endocrine care. She is also a core member of King’s multidisciplinary paediatric pituitary team.
Dr Kapoor has an active academic career at King’s College London, where she contributes to teaching, PhD supervision, and translational research in neuroendocrinology. Her research focuses on neuroendocrine and neurobehavioural outcomes in children with hypothalamic disorders such as craniopharyngioma and septo-optic dysplasia. Supported by a prestigious MRC Clinical Academic Research Partnership (CARP) award, she leads investigations into the role of oxytocin in emotional, cognitive, and social development in children with hypothalamic dysfunction.
Her broader research portfolio includes congenital hyperinsulinism, growth hormone therapy, and the long-term endocrine outcomes in rare paediatric conditions. Dr Kapoor has served as a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow and received a NIHR-BRC Clinical Research Award. She is also an active peer reviewer for journals including JCEM, Clinical Endocrinology, European Journal of Endocrinology, JCRPE, Frontiers in Endocrinology, and Archives of Disease in Childhood, and regularly examines PhD and MD theses.
