Biography

Dr Ronny Cheung is a consultant general paediatrician at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Guy’s & St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT), and Officer for Health Services at the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health. He holds other national roles in his twin passions of healthcare improvement and policy. Within child health, he works as the national advisor for paediatric medicine for NHS England’s Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) Further Faster programme which is focused on accelerating elective recovery for child health services.

Outside of paediatrics, he chairs NICE’s Indicators Advisory Committee which curates healthcare metrics for NHS providers (primary and secondary care) and population-based health service, and he is also a Senior Associate at the Nuffield Trust health thinktank. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London, and has published over 50 academic papers and five policy/thinktank reports, and contributed to (or edited) 3 textbooks. He is an associate editor of Archives of Disease in Childhood and Pediatric Quality & Safety.

He has previously been a clinical advisor to Public Health England and to the English Chief Medical Officer at the UK Department of Health, and was also seconded as a health advisor to the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit in the Cabinet Office.
