Biography
I am a research associate in Professor Steven Sacks Complement Therapeutics group, which I joined in 2019. Prior to that I worked for Dr Richard Smith in the Protein Therapeutics laboratory during which time I was a member of the EMPIRIKAL trial research team investigating the efficacy of Mirococept for preventing ischaemia-reperfusion injury in the kidney allograft. Indeed, I have always been most interested in translational research and have been involved in clinical trials since 2001, at which time I was working for Dr Stipo Jurcevic in the Department of Nephrology and Transplantation. I have worked extensively on novel assay development and sample analysis. Complement-based therapeutics in the transplant setting are my main area of interest however, I recently worked as part of a collaboration investigating the potential cytoprotective effect of Mirococept on human airway cells targeted by SARS-CoV-2.
