
Dr Roxanne Keynejad
Clinical Research Training Fellow
Biography
Roxanne is a Clinical Research Training Fellow in the Section of Women’s Mental Health and NHS ST4 higher trainee in general adult psychiatry. Her PhD is a randomised feasibility study of brief problem-solving therapy for perinatal depression and intimate partner violence in rural Ethiopia, supervised by Dr Charlotte Hanlon and Professor Louise Howard. It is funded by King’s College London and a King’s IoPPN Clinician Investigator Scholarship.
Roxanne studied Medicine on the KCL graduate/professional entry programme (GPEP), after a degree in Psychology with Philosophy at the University of Oxford. She completed the Academic Foundation Programme at St Helier and St George’s Hospitals before an Academic Clinical Fellowship on the Maudsley Training Programme.
Roxanne’s research interests are in social determinants of mental health and how traumatic experiences influence mental health. She is interested in the interface between physical and mental health and integrating psychiatric skills into routine primary care, worldwide. Expertise and Public Engagement
Roxanne is passionate about democratising medical and research education through innovative and online teaching methods. She has contributed to King’s Somaliland Partnership since 2009, co-founded ‘Trainees for Global Mental Health’ and was recently awarded a King’s-ODA Research Partnership Seed Fund grant to develop a network of early career researchers investigating the relationship between intimate partner violence and mental health in low and middle-income countries. She co-founded ‘PsychED Up’, a coproduced, multidisciplinary, volunteer-led psychiatry teaching course funded by a Health Innovation Network South London small grant.

Section of Women’s Mental Health
The Section of Women’s Mental Health (SWMH) undertakes mental health services and policy research with a primary focus on women’s mental health. We carry out global research into the gendered determinants of mental health problems and the needs of women with mental health problems using epidemiological and qualitative methods and develop and evaluate interventions to meet those needs and inform health policy. Our work contributes to policymaking and healthcare practice both nationally and internationally.
