Research interests

Dr Qayyum’s scholarship focuses on two broad areas. Firstly, on the application of equity, and all things to do with the trust including its history, use, comparison with similar institutions (such as the foundation and waqf) and its ongoing doctrinal development in the UK and abroad.

Secondly, his scholarship focuses on effectively doing knowledge exchange, with a special focus on addressing inequality and poverty, both their root causes and effects. To further this work, he has obtained multiple grants as (co)principal investigator, including most recently from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to improve attainment and reduce school exclusion involving disabled or additional needs children. Several of his programmes and activities have been widely acclaimed (including by the European Commission and local governments in the UK and US) and recommended as models for reproduction.
