
Simon Cleary PhD

Biography
Simon Cleary is a research group leader and Lecturer in Pharmacology at King’s College London. His research focus is on lung immunology, and his group develop and use new microscopy techniques for research aimed at enabling improvements in respiratory medicine. Current projects focus on understanding how lymphatic vessels limit lung inflammation and developing cleared tissue imaging approaches for pulmonary fibrosis research and diagnosis. His research is currently funded by a Springboard grant from the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Simon has a PhD from King’s College London and was previously a postdoctoral researcher at the Babraham Institute, Cambridge and the University of California, San Francisco. His is affiliated to the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and the King’s Centre for Lung Health, is an associate member of the Francis Crick Institute Immunology Interest Group, serves on the editorial board of AJP-Lung and highlights research through PreLights and on Bluesky. Simon also co-leads the year 2 undergraduate module ‘Research Skills in Pharmacology’ with Dr Dibesh Thapa. He is passionate about research skills training, widening participation in research and improving scientific communication.
