Sodaba Khalil joined King's College London in September 2026 as a DAAD Lecturer, a position jointly mandated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and King's College London.

Before coming to King's, she taught German as a Foreign Language since 2016 across a range of educational settings, including language courses at the University of Marburg and the University of Tokyo, as well as work with secondary school students. She holds a First State Examination (Erste Staatsprüfung), equivalent to a Master's degree, in German and English from Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, as well as a BA in Language and Communication from Philipps-Universität Marburg, with a focus on linguistics, specifically pragmatics.

Teaching

Sodaba teaches German language, literature, and culture from beginner to advanced levels. Her teaching approach centres on creating safe, error-tolerant learning environments that make language genuinely accessible. Her work is informed by diversity-sensitive pedagogy and intercultural competence, reflecting her own multilingual and multicultural background. Her academic interests include multilingual identity formation, a theme she explored in her Master's-level thesis, an autoethnography on identity, as well as post-migrant literature.
