Biography
Professor Sven Plein studied Medicine in Marburg/Germany and specialised as a cardiologist in the Leeds. He received his PhD in Medicine from the University of Leeds in 2003. Professor Plein’s research focuses on patients at increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease and from its complications, such as those with diabetes mellitus and chronic inflammatory disease. He is particularly interested in elucidating disease mechanisms in multi-morbidity and to study the effects of therapies on disease progression and patient outcome using advanced cardiovascular imaging and has published over 400 research articles. He has a longstanding interest in education and has been editor for several textbooks and led international efforts for training and in his roles as Vice President of EACVI and President of SCMR.

The 400 inter-disciplinary scientists in the Centre are transforming the diagnosis and treatment of patients, and will deliver exceptional research.
