
Biography
Dr Taryn Smith is a Research Associate in the Department of Women and Children’s Health and the Global Nutrition Research Group. Her research focuses on maternal and child nutrition, global nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and child development.
Dr Smith is currently working on projects across sub-Saharan Africa focused on the role of nutrition in early child development and the nurturing care of children, including the INDiGO trial - a randomised trial of micronutrient supplementation to mothers and infants in The Gambia and impacts on infant neurodevelopment outcomes.
Dr Smith holds a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Surrey (2014 – 2017) and has extensive research experience in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia through post-doctoral research positions at the University of California Davis and the University of Liverpool.
