Dr Teresa Tsakok

NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Dermatology

Biography

Dr Teresa Tsakok is an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at St John’s Institute of Dermatology. She graduated from the University of Oxford with a Distinction in Medicine. During her early career she was awarded successive posts to undertake research alongside her clinical work, including NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowships in Allergy and Dermatology. With a PhD in Molecular Medicine, her research has centred around immunomodulatory therapy in inflammatory skin disease; her work on therapeutic drug monitoring and genetic/immune predictors of developing anti-drug antibodies laid foundations for the practical implementation of personalised drug dosing at St John’s Institute of Dermatology.

Teresa has expertise in operating at the intersection of clinical medicine, academia, policy and industry. She was Immune Lead for the scientific due diligence team to the UK Government’s COVID-19 Therapeutics Advisory Panel, and member of the UK Task and Finish Group for Clinical Academic Training, co-authoring a nationally-commissioned report on ‘Clinical researchers in the UK: Reversing the decline’. She sits on the Executive Steering Committee of SPIN (Skin Inflammation & Psoriasis International Network), and was awarded the AstraZeneca-MRC Industry Partnership Fellowship to upskill in drug development and explore the use of AI to automate skin assessments in clinical trials. This theme continues in her current work, with a focus on AI-enabled digital technologies to empower people with skin conditions.
