Biography

I am a midwife and perinatal health researcher. After studying and working as a nurse and midwife in London, I moved to Australia where I undertook a Master's degree in Public Health and then to New Zealand and Auckland University, where I became involved in stillbirth research, completing my PhD, which was a population-based observational study exploring modifiable risk factors for late stillbirth, in 2012. I maintain ongoing collaborations with colleagues from Australia and New Zealand.

The perinatal outcome, public health and the provision of quality maternity care continue to be central to my research interest. I believe in the importance of the synergy between education, clinical practice and research, each informing the other in order, ultimately, to improve the quality and experience of maternal care. I have therefore maintained strong links to practice, most recently working as a clinical academic midwife in West Yorkshire.

Enquiring about potential PhD supervision

If you’re thinking of applying for one of our PhD programmes and are looking for potential supervisors, please email: nmpc_pgr_enquiries@kcl.ac.uk listing the names of the supervisors you’ve identified as having expertise in your chosen area, along with your CV and a short research proposal.

Our Postgraduate Research Team will contact supervisors on your behalf and get back to you. If you have any queries in the meantime, please use the email address above, rather than contacting potential PhD supervisors directly, because they are unable to respond to initial enquiries.
