Trevor is the Programme Director of the LLM in the Law of International Finance at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. He was awarded the School of Law’s Outstanding Educator prize for 2026. Trevor is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Trevor’s research focuses on international finance and corporate law, and the lawyers and law firms that practise in this sector. Trevor is the articles editor of the journal Legal Ethics.

Before joining academia, Trevor was a Partner at Linklaters, specialising in international finance, with many years spent across the firm’s London, Hong Kong and Singapore offices. Trevor holds a PhD from the Faculty of Law, UCL, and was previously a lecturer at the University of Leeds.

Trevor’s recent book, Financial Markets and the Ethics of Legal Practice (Oxford University Press, 2025), draws on extensive interviews with senior lawyers in major international law firms to explore what corporate lawyers do, why they do it, and the broader implications of their practice. Using leveraged finance case studies, it examines how lawyers shape the contractual terms that allocate and price risk in multibillion-dollar transactions and argues that their ethical lapses can carry significant consequences for the profession and society at large.

Trevor is currently under contract for two new book projects with Oxford University Press. He is writing a new monograph, International Finance: Law, Context and Markets (OUP, forthcoming 2027), and co-editing and contributing chapters to the third edition of the leading reference work McKnight, Zakrzewski and Clark on the Law of International Finance with Dr Rafal Zakrzewski, also forthcoming with OUP in 2027. Together these projects broaden Trevor’s work from the ethics of practice into the structures and regulation of international financial markets.

Trevor frequently contributes to important public debates. For example, he was interviewed by the FCA, and IOSCO, as part of an investigation into market transparency in the private equity and leveraged finance sectors. Trevor has also been interviewed for and cited in multiple articles in national newspapers and financial industry news outlets, including, ‘More Democratic: The Use of Designation of PE Deals Is Evolving’ (Law.com International, 24 September 2026), '"How is it Not a Conflict?” Debate Surrounds Kirkland’s Billion-Dollar Investment Fund’ (Law.com International, 1 July 2026), ‘The Powerful City Lawyer at the Centre of a Private Equity Storm’ (Bloomberg, February 2023) and ‘London Lawfare: How Lawyers Helped Russia’s Super Rich’ (Financial Times, May 2022). Trevor has also written, and been interviewed for and cited in, multiple articles in the legal services industry-focused press, for example, ‘Buying to Sell’ (about private equity-focused lawyers and law firms) The Law Society Gazette, August 2023); and ‘Ethically Dysfunctional: The Problem with Designation in Leveraged Finance’ (a sole-authored opinion piece, The Lawyer, October 2022).
