
Vicky Bowyer
Head of Research Programmes and Operations
Biography
Vicky joined the Department of Twin Research, Ageing & Genomic Epidemiology in 2021 to lead the COVID Symptom Study (CSS) Biobank and subsequently the operations of the Twins MR Imaging Study. In 2026, she was appointed Head of Research Programmes & Operations, providing strategic leadership for multidisciplinary professional services teams and overseeing major research cohorts, including the world-renowned TwinsUK study. Her role focuses on strengthening research delivery and operational excellence, and maximising research impact to support world-class health research.
With over 20 years of experience, Vicky has led the delivery of complex studies and large-scale research programmes across the UK and USA. Her research experience spans public health, cancer screening, cancer genetics, health behaviour change, health services research, and longitudinal cohort studies. She has significant experience in the delivery of multi-site and remote studies, study data capture systems, development and evaluation of digital health applications and decision-support tools, as well as survey design and analysis. Her work has involved diverse populations and communities, with a particular focus on addressing health inequalities and ensuring that research is inclusive, accessible, and representative.
Prior to joining King’s, Vicky held senior research leadership and operational roles at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and research roles at the University of Warwick and the NHS. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with researchers, clinicians, healthcare staff and external partners to deliver innovative studies that generate evidence to improve health outcomes and inform healthcare policy and practice.
