Prepare for Postgraduate

Why choose Prepare for Postgraduate?  

Our two-week preparatory programme is designed to help you get the best start in your postgraduate studies at King’s. Whether you are returning to higher education after a period of work, travel or family commitments, or entering UK higher education for the first time, Prepare for Postgraduate (PfP) will equip you with the knowledge and skills to make the most of your studies from day one.   

As well as developing key academic skills, you will learn what is expected of students at postgraduate level and how to successfully navigate King’s systems and online platforms. You will also have the opportunity to engage with students from different backgrounds, preparing you to thrive in an international environment.  

Discover London, immerse yourself in King’s academic life, and establish meaningful connections with other students, setting the foundation for lasting networks even before your degree starts.   

 


What will I learn? 

The course will cover the following key academic skills: 

  • academic writing; including appropriate style, structuring your work and referencing sources  

  • academic literacy; dealing with academic papers and lectures  

  • information literacy; using reading lists and research databases  

  • communicating effectively; participating in seminars and presentations  

  • critical analysis; demonstrating this in your work 

  • assessment literacy; understanding academic criteria, expectations and tutor feedback  

How will I learn? 

Prepare for Postgraduate (PfP) is a two-week, full-time intensive programme which combines daily on-campus classes with structured, independent study. You will learn through a combination of the following: 

  • group classes, lectures and tutorials 

  • guided online lesson preparation 

  • group and individual tasks 

You will have a personal tutor who will provide feedback on your work and support you in developing your skills.

How will I assess my learning? 

There is no formal assessment for this programme, however you will complete written and spoken tasks to practise and enhance your skills. You will also take part in a group project, which is a common assessment type on postgraduate degrees at KCL. 

You will have a weekly tutorial in which you will discuss your current skills with your tutor and how to develop these further. 

What are the entry requirements? 

You need to hold an unconditional offer to study for a postgraduate degree at King's.  

You must have met any English language requirements for your chosen degree, if applicable.   

How much does it cost? 

£1800 

When do applications close?

Our first application deadline is on 10 March 2024 (23:59 UK time). The final application deadlines for this programme are:

· Overseas applicants - 21 July 2024 (23:59 UK time)

· Home applicants - 18 August 2024 (23:59 UK time)

After the first application deadline, if the programme becomes full before the final deadlines stated above, we will close the programme to further applications.
