In this self-paced course, you will explore how AI technologies are transforming modern warfare, surveillance, and statecraft. Led by Professor Kenneth Payne, a leading expert in war studies, the course blends theoretical insight with real-world case studies, examining:

  • The strategic applications of AI in defence and security
  • The role of autonomy, data, and decision-making in conflict
  • The ethical and legal challenges posed by AI-driven systems
  • How states compete for dominance in the AI arms race

Course format

This course is delivered through the edX learning platform and is designed to be completed in approximately 5 hours.

What you'll learn
