Patient Safety and Cultural Variance (7KANP004)
Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care
Course Overview
This module aims to analyse patient safety in the context of culture, with a focus on defining and creating a strong safety culture. You will explore the development of patient safety as a discipline, paradigms in patient safety and how organisational and wider cultural influences impact and shape our approach to patient safety. There will be a focus on how we define and measure patient safety, how we recognise and respond to patient safety incidents and the latest thinking on how a strong safety culture promotes effective learning and emphasises improvement activity in healthcare. You will reflect on how staff and patients offer different perspectives on patient safety and safety cultures, and you will consider new horizons in patient safety from a research, policy and operational perspective.
