This module will equip students with the ability to both understand and apply research in practice. In addition, it will enable students to extend skills in critically evaluating published nursing and midwifery research.

On completion of the module students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of a variety of research designs and their applications.
- Recognise the ethical principles in nursing research from both a social and individual perspective.
- Read and interpret qualitative and quantitative research data.
- Identify and establish ways to enhance rigour in research designs.
- Systematically appraise research evidence for decision making in clinical practice.
