Parenting rooms and nursery facilities
Choosing childcare is an important decision for every family. The government offers a range of support for families with young children. You can find information on tax-free childcare, the 30 hours’ free childcare scheme, and other government childcare schemes on the Best Start in Life parent hub.
Parenting rooms
King’s is committed to providing rest, breastfeeding/expressing and changing facilities at all of our campuses to support parents working, studying or visiting the university.
Seven private and welcoming parenting rooms are available to anyone who needs to attend to the caring needs of a child, including feeding and changing. There are also facilities for breastfeeding mothers to express milk.
The rooms include nursing chairs, fridges, sterilising facilities, baby changing facilities, kettles and hand sanitising products. The rooms are lockable; access details are provided below.
This web page will be updated as additional parenting rooms are established.
Nursery facilities
Staff can apply for places in the nurseries run by our NHS partners: St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital and South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trusts. We have also identified a nursery provider close to our Waterloo Campus for your consideration. Additionally, you may be able to benefit from discounted kids’ clubs places, with money off in addition to any support provided by the government.

Located next to the Franklin-Wilkins Building of our South Bank Campus, in the heart of a thriving community, the Coin Street nursery – for children aged 3 months to 5 years – is purpose-designed to encourage play-based learning with interactive areas, including an outdoor play area. Children benefit from Coin Street’s excellent location with regular trips – included in the fees – to the Southbank Centre, National Theatre and Borough Market.
At Coin Street, each child is encouraged to develop their own educational interests. Parents and carers are encouraged to work with the nursery’s qualified team to monitor their child’s progress through regular contact, meetings, support groups and online.
The nursery is part of the Ofsted Outstanding Coin Street family and children’s centre, which provides a safe and friendly environment for parents, carers and their children where they can receive support and advice, access to health, education and training services. For older children, the centre offers a holiday play scheme as well as a wider programme of free and affordable activities for every age.
