Religion and belief have played a historical role in the foundation of King's College London and the University continues to be committed to supporting its community in their religious life and spiritual development.
Under paragraph 3(1) of the King’s College London Charter, the University is charged to ‘have regard both to its Anglican tradition and the diverse beliefs and backgrounds of its members’. King’s therefore aims to strike a balance between recognising its Anglican foundations and ensuring that our community’s plurality of religious belief, philosophical belief and no belief is respected and welcomed.
The purpose of the Religion & Belief Policy is to outline the expected behaviours of all members of the King’s community in relation to religion and belief.

The Religion & Belief Guidance provides further information on the support and provision available and guidance on how members of the King’s community can uphold their responsibilities under the Policy. The Guidance also includes a list of further resources.
The Policy and Guidance were developed through consultation with key stakeholders to understand the requirements of our King’s community alongside learning from a range of HEI and public sector best practice guides. Stakeholders included the Dean and Chaplaincy, faculty and directorate colleagues, KCLSU, HR Business Partners, staff networks and the Freedom of Expression Standing Advisory Group. HEI and public sector best practice included the Acas guide to religion and belief discrimination and religion and belief guidance from Advance HE.
