What is the Digital Humanities Game Lab?

The Digital Humanities Game Lab (DHGL) is a research group based in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King’s College London.

It is dedicated to the research of digital games and gaming as a core aspect of digital culture. We ask how digital games can shape our being in the world and how this could be otherwise. The Lab brings together researchers, practitioners, and students interested in digital games through a programme of events and research initiatives. One of the components of this programme is a series of ‘Critical Gaming Nights’ where games are played and critically discussed.

The DHGL has been successful in obtaining a number of grants, including the Dean’s Innovation Fund.

Our objectives

  • Creates a laboratory space as a research environment where digital games can be critically played and discussed.
  • Hosts a seminar and workshop series on the latest digital games research.
  • Facilitate connectivity between digital games researchers at King’s as well as with international colleagues.
  • Responds to pedagogical challenges by enabling students to play the games discussed on their modules and enhancing student experience through the establishment of a community.
