Organoids are three-dimensional (3D) cell culture systems that more accurately mimic how cells interact and behave within a spatial environment. In contrast to conventional two-dimensional (2D) cultures, organoids can partially reproduce the structure and physiological functions of different organs under in vitro conditions.

Extended 3D imaging makes it possible to observe how intricate multicellular systems grow, evolve, and coordinate cellular movements over time, offering valuable insights into development, disease progression, and tissue regeneration, which can be performed in the Leica Viventis Deep Lightsheet microscope.

Organoids and other ex-vivo samples can be further analysed using the array of multi-omic technology available within the STH to provide in-depth coverage to understand disease states in granular detail.
