Protein identification from 1D gel bands is a routine process in the Facility. In a typical workflow, excision from the gel is followed by an enzymatic digestion into peptides prior to LC-MS/MS analysis. We also perform in-solution digests of complex samples such as cell lysates, tissue samples etc. for a global analysis.
Correct sample preparation is essential to ensuring that an accurate result is achieved from the sample analysis. It is important to avoid keratin contamination and limit the use of detergents where possible. Use the best quality water, acids and solvents and avoid cross contamination. To achieve the maximum from your samples, we suggest that you use our recommended protocols.
