Geoeconomics and technology have become central to global politics and security in the 21st century. Growing economic interdependence was previously assumed to promote international cooperation. However, interdependence is now becoming increasingly weaponized as states, businesses and other actors seek to leverage their position in trade and financial networks and supply chains to gain strategic advantage. At the heart of this dynamic lies the growing convergence of economic interests, industrial policy, technological innovation, and national security.
The Geoeconomics and Tech Initiative aims to become King’s focal point for research, dialogue and engagement on these pressing issues. Our mission is to bridge the gap between academic research and policy practice, advancing rigorous, evidence-based scholarship while supporting effective strategies for governments and international institutions.
Our members have deep expertise and decades of combined experience researching, writing about and engaging in policy and academic debates in the areas of geoeconomics and tech. Building on these strengths and our location in central London, our initiative will foster and contribute to a domestic and international community committed to understanding and shaping the evolving frontiers of strategy, innovation and security.
