The ‘Imaging Therapies and Cancer’ laboratory is a multi-disciplinary team headed by Dr Gilbert Fruhwirth. Our vision is exploiting imaging to advance the understanding of human disease and to boost the development and clinical translation of advanced therapies in oncology and immune medicine, aiming to improve patients’ lives.

We employ multi-modal imaging to better understand cancer biology, to detect cancers earlier, and to develop new and improve existing therapeutics with an emphasis on cell-based therapeutics. We employ multi-modal imaging approaches that span multiple lengths scales ranging from whole-body to microscopic levels.

We are experts in whole-body as well as microscopic cell and tissue imaging employing multimodal radionuclide, optical and X-ray technologies. We hold expertise in genetic engineering including approaches to unlock advanced cell tracking in the cancer, immune and stem cell arenas, and including methodologies suitable for clinical translation.
