Transforming health through innovation and collaboration
King’s Population Health Institute (KPHI) is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to addressing the most pressing and complex population health challenges of our time.
By uniting expertise across diverse disciplines, the Institute aims to revolutionise health and healthcare by:
- Developing novel personalised precision population health approaches.
- Fostering innovation.
- Driving impactful research and education that inform policy and practice.
King’s is uniquely positioned to lead this transformative effort. With its extensive expertise, infrastructure, and an outstanding track record in population health research across its Faculties and Schools, the University is taking a bold step forward with the creation of the Institute.
A catalyst for change

The King’s Population Health Institute is more than an academic endeavour. By integrating research, education, and community engagement, the Institute’s impact serves to influence health policy, improve healthcare delivery, and creating a healthier, more equitable world.
Through its innovative approach, KPHI is setting new standards for research and practice, positioning itself as a global leader in personalised precision population health.
Our vision
Our vision is to empower communities to achieve the highest attainable health. We advocate for the recognition of health as a fundamental human right, and strive to transform health outcomes through innovation, equity, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Our mission
Our core mission is to bring together diverse disciplines - such as social sciences, business, law, engineering, natural and mathematical sciences, policy, and a wide range of health sciences, including mental health - to address the most pressing and complex population health challenges. These challenges require innovative, interdisciplinary solutions that transcend the boundaries of any single discipline
Addressing unmet needs locally and globally

London’s diverse population presents unique healthcare challenges, particularly in South East London, where health inequalities are stark. Among other priorities, KPHI focus on addressing these disparities by developing innovative, sustainable health systems that cater to the needs of underserved communities.
The Institute’s research places a strong emphasis on prevention, aiming to address health challenges at their root by promoting healthy behaviours, enhancing health literacy, and implementing early intervention strategies.
Additionally, KPHI will seek to realise the full potential of data science and AI to predict health trends, develop personalised care and design targeted interventions that improve outcomes for diverse populations.
Globally, the Institute is tackling the growing burden of chronic diseases, multimorbidity, and health inequities – particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Key themes and research areas
KPHI’s work is structured around four core themes. These themes are underpinned by a commitment to equity, innovation, and real-world impact, ensuring that research translates into tangible benefits for communities.

1. Innovating health systems
Transforming healthcare delivery through person-centric models, digital health interventions, and sustainable care systems.
2. Data science in population health
Harnessing big data and AI to predict health trends, personalise care, and improve outcomes.
3. Personalised and precision digital health
Leveraging amongst others digital therapeutics and genomics to tailor healthcare interventions to individual needs.
4. Health and equality: integrative mind-body approach
Addressing mental and physical health disparities through a holistic, data-driven approach.
Partnerships and collaboration

Collaboration is central to the Institute’s mission. KPHI builds on King’s extensive network of partnerships, including King’s Health Partners, NHS trusts, local authorities, industry leaders, and community organisations, to co-create solutions that address health disparities.
KPHI also works with global institutions such as the World Health Organization to ensure a collaborative and impactful approach to tackling health inequalities. Fostering these partnerships serves to amplify the Institute’s reach, and ensures its work delivers meaningful, far-reaching impact.
