Our group aims to improve health and wellbeing at the intersection of physical and mental health across the preconception, pregnancy, and postnatal periods.

We primarily focus on diabetes before, during, and after pregnancy, exploring how it affects women’s mental health, and how psychological wellbeing, in turn, influences physical health outcomes for mothers and their babies.

Our goal is to understand and address the complex, two-way links between mind and body in the perinatal period, and to develop evidence-based interventions that support women holistically through a lifecourse approach.

We work collaboratively with clinicians, researchers, third-sector organisations, and people with lived experience. Our research uses a mix of methods, including evidence synthesis, participatory action research, complex intervention development, clinical trials, and qualitative studies such as interviews, focus groups, and process evaluations.
