The Shah group researches recurrent IgA nephropathy and mechanism of rejection after kidney transplantation.

Kidney transplantation is the gold standard treatment for suitable patients with end stage kidney disease. However up to 20% of patients with a glomerular disease develop recurrence after kidney transplantation and a further 50% of transplants subsequently fail prematurely.

Recurrent glomerulonephritis is now the third most common cause of kidney graft failure at 10 years after death with a functioning graft and chronic rejection.

Our interest is in improving long term kidney transplant survival by studying mechanisms of recurrent glomerulonephritis and chronic rejection particularly in patients of Black ethnicities.
