Technology Enhanced integrated AsthMa care (TEAMCare)
TEAMCare is a paediatric trial investigating two new technologies - a wheeze monitoring device and a smart sensor for inhaler adherence reminders and monitoring. The aim of the trial is to evaluate if the use of these devices can enhance clinical outcomes in paediatric asthma patients. Patients consented onto the trial will be randomised to one of two arms, an intervention arm with the devices or a control arm with usual care.
TEAMCare is trialling technologies to support asthma care and improve outcomes for children. Asthma technologies are available, but in many cases the evidence for benefit among children has not been established. We are testing two specific technologies to improve outcomes for children with asthma. The technologies trialled in TEAMCare are a wheeze-monitoring device, and a smart inhaler to monitor medication use and help improve use of inhalers.

Aims
Our aim is to improve outcomes for children with asthma by rigorously testing technology enhanced care pathways.
Methods
Children aged 6 to 15 with an ACT (Asthma Control Test) score below 20, indicating poorly controlled asthma, will be identified through primary, secondary, and tertiary care. Eligible patients will be contacted for potential study participation. Children and parents/carers who are interested will be asked if they consent to participate in the trial, and if they agree, they will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: the intervention group, which will use technology in addition to usual care, or the control group, which will receive usual care alone.
All study participants will be asked to complete questionnaires, at baseline and 6 months follow-up, about asthma and other health outcomes such as quality of life, and whether asthma affects attendance at school.
Trials Design
2-arm randomised controlled trial.
