Accessibility Statement for Mentorink

This accessibility statement applies to Mentorink mentoring platform.

Mentorink is a third-party application.

Mentorink is provided by Mentorink to King's College London to streamline mentorship programs by automating mentor and mentee matching, facilitating communication, and enhancing King’s mentoring program efficiency.

[Mentorink Version 1.696.0] Publication date 13/05/2025.

Using this application

We want as many people as possible to be able to use, read and understand the content of Mentorink.

This means that you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate the application using just a keyboard
  • navigate the application using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the application using a screen reader

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this application is

We want to ensure users are fully informed about the current accessibility limitations of this platform. Below is a simplified summary of known issues that may affect users with accessibility needs:

  • Missing Button Labels: Some buttons do not have descriptive text. This means screen reader users may not know what the button does, making navigation difficult.
  • Low Colour Contrast: Some text does not have enough contrast against the background, which can make it hard to read especially for users with low vision or colour blindness.
  • Invisible Skip Links: The “Skip to main content” link is not visible when using a keyboard. This makes it harder for keyboard only users to bypass repetitive navigation.

These issues mean the platform does not fully meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, specifically:

  • 1.1.1 Non-text Content
  • 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context)
  • 1.4.6 Enhanced Contrast

We recommend that the vendor conduct a comprehensive accessibility evaluation to ensure full WCAG compliance. Once the vendor has completed a comprehensive accessibility evaluation then we will update this statement.

Technical information about this application’s accessibility

King’s College London is committed to making this application accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This application is partially compliant with the  Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the following non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

Mentorink is provided by a third-party supplier which means that some aspects of accessibility are outside our immediate control.

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • 1.1.1 Non-text Content and 2.4.4 Link Purpose (in context): Some Buttons are empty. When navigating to a button, descriptive text must be presented to screen reader users to indicate the function of the button.
  • 1.4.6 Contrast (Enhanced): Colour contrast does not meet enhanced requirement. There is insufficient colour contrast between the text and background on some pages to meet the enhanced contrast requirement. For example, text and background colours that conflict or have too little contrast between each other can cause readability issues for users who are colour-blind or have low vision.

The "skip to main content" or "skip navigation" link should be visible on focus so that sighted keyboard-users (such as people with motor disabilities) can see that it exists. This way, they also have the option to bypass links as they navigate the page. This is a best practice only and not currently required for WCAG conformance.

Disproportionate burden

At this time, we have not made any disproportionate burden claims.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

King’s College London are working with Mentorink to fix or provide alternatives for all issues that are we are made aware of or are identified by our internal testing and auditing processes.
