About the Institution

The Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität Frankfurt am Main (or Goethe University Frankfurt) was founded in 1914. Its name was changed to its current form in 1932. It currently has around 38,000 students. It is home to the Frankfurt School of philosophy and social thought, propagated by such thinkers as Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer. Goethe University offers a variety of 170 undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate study programmes in 16 academic departments and is especially strong in the areas of history, law, and economics.
